There is a certain time of day in the high desert when the colors change. This is usually before just before dusk. We can see the Catalina Mountains from our house and they always take on a pink hue at this time of day. I mentioned how lucky we are to see the mountains change color in the evening to which she replied, “When it is pink, its time to drink.” Well I am all for the occasional cocktail, but what I was really interested in was somehow capturing this phenomenon in a painting. So after I arranged these two types of cactus I really played with the tones of color. I consider myself to be something of a colorist in my compositions anyway, so I was very pleased about the final results of the colors in this piece.
