WILL ROBINSON

The drive behind Will Robinson’s work is to bring his vision from the ephemeral to the physical through what he refers to as the “process of translation.” He brings these visions to form in stone, utilizing the medium’s enduring solidity and resistance to the ravages of time and the elements. He melds carved and polished surfaces with rough hewn basalt and granite. The impact of his work is equally important in the visual sense as it is in its physical, tactile presence. He encourages the viewer to touch the work to engage them more personally. He says, “My inspiration is drawn from the sum of my life experiences, the amplified or muted to fit my emotional state at the moment when I am actually creating.” His work is part of public collections in Washington and private collections in Washington, California, and Texas.

Will Robinson chooses to work primarily with stone because of its solidity and ability to withstand the elements and time. Varying textures integrate smooth and rough surfaces, creating intriguing duality in the stone. He encourages viewers to touch his work; engaging with the stone creates a connection between the medium, the artist, and the viewer. Will Robinson was born in Bremerton, Washington and graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in history. A true artist, Robinson has an intense need and desire to create art.
