Beautiful Mata Ortiz Pottery - Geometric Design - Very Detailed - No Chips, Scratches, or Marks: Mata Ortiz pottery is a wonderful representation of the best in Mexican folk art. The Mata Ortiz potters use only local materials found in the nearby mountains in northern Chihuahua and follow the designs of the ancient Casas Grandes pueblo people. In the early 1970s, a young Juan Quezada recreated the ancient ceramic traditions of the region by developing a single coil method of making his pots. Each piece is made by hand, but the pots are truly distinctive. The unique clay and oxides that are used to produce this fine black pottery give it a distinctive color and shine. The artistry of Juan Quezada and his followers provide interest, detail, and artistry. This piece is signed by master potter Martha Quezada.
